Section Syllabi Review
Section syllabi review process
Beginning in academic year 2018-19, the Teaching and Assessment Committee (TACO) will begin overseeing the collection of section syllabi and performing review of section syllabi associated with a sample of courses with the following goals:
- Providing an institutional repository for all section syllabi that supports institutional accreditation and federal compliance
- Providing an institutional repository for all section syllabi that supports faculty
and instructors that are unfamiliar with teaching the course
- Specifically reviewing the quality of those syllabi for their:
- course learning outcomes
- explanation of grading and assessments
- alignment of assessments with course learning outcomes
- course policies
- Specifically reviewing the harmonization of those syllabi, particularly for their:
- course learning outcomes
- major content areas
Colleges, schools, divisions, departments, and other academic units whose courses
are under review will be notified at the beginning of the academic year. Academic
units will also be notified which of their courses' sections have failed to upload
syllabi into the institutional repository at that time.
Academic units will then be notified which specific courses will have their sections'
syllabi reviewed.
Syllabi that fail to meet goal 3 (see the
TACO rubric for review components) will receive personal feedback from the
TACO review team.
At the end of each review year, TACO will prepare a summary report addressing goals
3 and 4 presented as for information to Faculty Senate and also provided to the
department chair and Director of Assessment.
